Google loves fresh content and blogging is an easy way to give that and gain some more Google love. Just one blog each month could satisfy the Google bot since it visits the average website between every 4 and 30 days. It actively seeks out fresh content first.

There is so much more on offer than just appealing to Google. It’s also a great opportunity to show your audience that you really do know what you are talking about. Well written articles on and around your area of expertise help confirm to your reader they can trust you because you know your stuff!.

Blogging also gives your audience the chance to understand how what you do helps solve their problem. You can achieve this by blogging stories, case studies or “how to” articles. Not only does this reinforce that you know your stuff but shows you as helpful and not just chasing the money.

Yes, I know it can be tough to get going and keep going, I’ve taught blogging for business for over 8 years. Excuses I’ve been given for not blogging are varied and include:

  • I don’t know what to write
  • My grammar and spelling is awful
  • I’m dyslexic, it scares me
  • I’m ADHD, I can’t focus long enough
  • I’ve got nothing of interest to write about
  • People know all that stuff already
  • There are already lots of blogs on my subject
  • I can’t commit to the time
  • I won’t keep doing it, I’ll get bored
  • I will get around to it soon…

…and many variations on those too.

Each of those excuses can be overcome if you really want to learn to blog. The benefits of blogging far outweigh any excuse you can make. The fresh content for Google alone makes it worth the extra effort. You don’t need to be writing thousands of words every month, despite what you may have read, but instead need to create top quality, interesting articles that real people would enjoy reading.

I know, first hand, the difference regular blog posts make to your marketing efforts. I also know, first hand, how easy it is to fail to blog regularly and the impact that has too. I often binge write a number of blogs at once so I can just schedule them to publish at regular intervals. You have to do what works for you!

If you could dedicate under 2 hours a month to create great content then Google will reward you. Your potential customers will thank you and your social media marketing will benefit from more substance, more trust, in turn driving more traffic to your website.

If you want to blog but are struggling then get in touch and let’s talk about getting you benefitting from this easy addition to your marketing toolbox.
